KHR Bylaws

Kentucky Honors Roundtable (KHR)

Bylaws

Approval Date: September 30, 2017

1. Membership

Institutional members of the Kentucky Honors Roundtable (KHR) include all honors programs and honors colleges at two-year and four-year Kentucky colleges and universities who pay annual dues and choose to participate in the organization.

2. Conferences/Meetings

Member institutions of KHR who choose to serve as hosts rotate in their duties as host of the biannual KHR conferences. When hosting, each member institution will select its own conference organizer(s). Each academic year, there is one KHR conference in the fall and another in the spring. Conferences will include panels, poster sessions and other contributions as proposed by students, faculty, administrators, and/or staff of member institutions and as accepted by the host institution’s conference organizer(s). Each KHR conference will include a business meeting of students as well as a business meeting of administrators/faculty/staff. Feedback from students will be solicited and considered in planning future meetings.

3. Dues

Annual institutional dues should be paid to the Treasurer by November 1 each year. The two institutions that are hosting KHR in a given academic year will not pay dues for that year. Of the total amount of dues collected by the Treasurer, half will be distributed to the fall KHR host institution, and the other half to the spring semester host institution. These distributions are to assist in covering the costs of hosting KHR.

4. Officers

The President of the KHR serves a three-year term. The President may stand for reelection, with no limit on the number of consecutive or non-consecutive terms s/he may serve. The President’s duties include setting the agenda for and presiding over the administrators/faculty/staff business meetings at each KHR. The KHR President will also represent and promote the organization to external constituencies.

The Treasurer of KHR also serves a three-year term. The Treasurer may stand for reelection, with no limit on the number of consecutive or non-consecutive terms s/he may serve. The Treasurer’s duties include collecting dues and distributing those funds each year to institutions that host KHR conferences.

Elections for President and Treasurer will be conducted when necessary in accordance with these bylaws, and they will be done at the administrator/faculty/staff meeting at the end of a KHR conference. In these elections, nominations will be made from the floor. If only one candidate is nominated, s/he may be confirmed by acclamation. If more than one candidate is nominated, there will be a secret-ballot vote, with each member institution allotted one vote.

In the event that the President is temporarily unable to discharge their duties, the Treasurer will serve pro tempore in their place. If the Treasurer is temporarily unable to discharge their duties, the President will serve pro tempore in her/his place.

5. Amendments

Amendments to these bylaws may be proposed to the President in advance of any KHR conference. Proposed amendments will be discussed and voted upon at the administrator/faculty/staff business meeting at the following KHR conference. Each institutional member will have one vote.
